Background on NewTech Communications Inc.
In the ever-evolving landscape of business and innovation, companies often become more than just entities; they become pillars of inspiration, innovation, and community. But nothing is permanent. Businesses have a finite lifespan. As we reflect on the closure of a friend of ours, NewTech Communications, Inc., (1985-2024), a once-prominent force in small business and enterprise cabling, VOIP, SIP, IT, and business telephone industries, we discover that there is meaningful inspiration to be found in their legacy.
Newtech Communications, Inc. was founded back in 1985, a local family-owned company that has since served hundreds of customers throughout the Pacific Northwest region. Based in Mukilteo (Snohomish County), they were best known for their work servicing legacy business telephone systems, as well as at least a few VOIP systems. NewTech also Installed structured cabling (such as Cat-5 or Cat-6 cabling) for voice, ethernet, and data usage.
One of the real benefits of NewTech Communications was their expertise with on-premise phone systems, especially for small business. Some notable brands serviced include Vertical, Vodavi, IPitomy, Nortel, Avaya, Panasonic, and Toshiba, to name a few.
As the owner of Advocate One, I deeply respect NewTech’s commitment to continue to serve folks with phone systems that are no longer supported by their manufacturers. Bob and Tim brought a level of expertise to legacy phone system that’s difficult to find and now, will be difficult to replace.
Our own company’s journey paralleled NewTech’s in the early days. We served (and still serve) customers with phone systems by many of the same manufacturers. Sadly, it feels like the end of an era.
For our part and for our own customers, we can only hope to take inspiration from NewTech’s commitment to service phone issues in the Greater Seattle Area and beyond. We understand the challenges of servicing equipment that’s a few years old. It’s no small task, considering how phone systems these days need to interoperate with other equipment such as Voice-over-IP Telephones, Softphone Apps running on PCs, Tablets or Cell Phones, Paging Systems, Background Music Systems, Controlled Entry Systems, not to mention modern phone services like SIP Trunks. Customers these days require services like Company Texting, Voicemail to Email services, integration with various Conferencing solutions. It can be a real challenge to bridge that gap.
I take real inspiration from the legacy that New Tech left. For 39 years they provided a stirring example of a company willing to bend over backwards for their customer. They’ve left quite a standard for their competitors and friends in the industry!
